PLAYING around with a handy cam a few years ago was just the beginning for local cameraman Lance Wordsworth.
The 22-year-old now has a feature film, 'Memories of Tomorrow', entered into the Asia Film Festival Aotearoa this month. The ‘no budget’ picture was filmed during weekends for around five months using volunteer assistance.
Lance said after almost a year’s worth of filming and editing he is pleased with the outcome.
“It’s actually quite hard trying to keep everyone’s spirits up and interested for five months over weekends, so we were quite lucky to finish it in a year.”
Lance, who was director of photography (DOP), and writer-director Amit Tripuraneni, have made around eight short films before, but this 87-minute effort is their first feature attempt.
“I had a handy cam so we started making short films and a music video and after that we decided we should make a feature film to try and get noticed by people. The short films are all so bad though,” he laughed.
Lance said the pair would take the film to as many festivals as they could afford and hope to soon have a contract with an American film company.
“Making movies is all I ever want to do and all I will do,” he said.
'Memories of Tomorrow' is an action thriller following the lives of John (Richard Thompson) and Tanya (Rachel Gilchrist), a happily married couple living an idyllic life in New Zealand.
On the surface everything seems normal but John is haunted by nightmares and has no recollection of his past.
The arrival of a mysterious stranger triggers off an unstoppable chain of events which culminates in the collision of two worlds. Past secrets are unveiled that will change lives forever.
